Teen Sentenced to 15 Years for Attempted Murder in Shocking School Stabbing
April 28, 2025
A 14-year-old girl has been sentenced to 15 years in detention for attempting to murder two teachers and a fellow pupil during a stabbing incident at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, South Wales, on April 24, 2024.
During the attack, the girl confronted teacher Fiona Elias while shouting, 'I’m going to f*****g kill you,' and stabbed her multiple times with a multi-tool she had brought from home.
The victims included teachers Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin, both of whom sustained serious injuries that required hospitalization, with Ms. Hopkin needing air ambulance transport to Cardiff.
Although all three victims survived, the incident left a significant impact on the school community, prompting a lockdown during the emergency response.
Detective Chief Superintendent Ross Evans highlighted the lasting psychological trauma experienced by the victims, noting that recovery from such mental scars will take longer than physical healing.
During sentencing, Judge Paul Thomas KC criticized the girl for her apparent lack of remorse, suggesting she seemed to enjoy the attention from her actions.
In court, the girl expressed some remorse but claimed she could not remember much of the incident, stating, 'It doesn’t sound like me. It doesn’t feel like something I would do.'
Throughout the court proceedings, the girl displayed little remorse, often doodling or taking notes, and even made threats to others while in detention.
After the attack, she made troubling remarks to police, including, 'That’s one way to be a celebrity,' indicating a concerning mindset about the incident.
Prior to the attack, she had hinted to friends about planning to 'do something stupid' that could lead to her expulsion, suggesting premeditation.
CCTV footage presented in court captured the chaotic nature of the incident, showing the girl attacking her teacher and injuring another student who intervened.
Evans thanked emergency services and school staff for their swift response and urged the community to allow the school to return to normalcy following this traumatic event.
