King Charles III is set to host French President Emmanuel Macron for a state visit to the UK from July 8 to July 10, 2025, with the goal of strengthening post-Brexit relations.

The relationship between the UK and France has faced challenges in recent years, particularly due to Brexit and disputes over migrant crossings in the English Channel.

However, the current Labour government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer has fostered a renewed warmth in relations, focusing on joint efforts regarding European issues.

Starmer and Macron recently visited Kyiv with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss support for Ukraine, underscoring the importance of cooperation between the two nations.

The UK remains a key ally of France in supporting Ukraine, which has been under Russian invasion since February 2022.

Adding significance to the upcoming state visit, King Charles was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in early 2024.

During the visit, President Macron will co-chair the 37th Franco-British Summit with Prime Minister Starmer, alongside relevant ministers from both countries.

The last state visit from France occurred in March 2008, when then-President Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni stayed at Windsor Castle.

This announcement comes after Macron faced unfounded accusations regarding a photo taken during a trip to Ukraine, which were dismissed by the French government.

King Charles had initially planned to visit France as his first overseas trip after ascending the throne but postponed it in March 2023 due to protests over a pension law introduced by Macron.

In addition to the state visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to Canada on May 26 and 27, 2025, marking Charles' first visit to Canada as King.

Macron paid a heartfelt tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after her passing in 2022, which resonated deeply with the British royal family.
