Talking Heads Mark 50th Anniversary with Deluxe Album Release and Unheard Tracks
May 29, 2025
Talking Heads are celebrating their 50th anniversary with the upcoming release of a super deluxe edition of their second album, 'More Songs About Buildings and Food,' set for July 25, 2025.
This super deluxe edition will include three CDs and a Blu-ray, featuring the remastered album, 11 rarities—four of which are previously unreleased—and a live album from their August 1978 concert at New York's Entermedia Theatre.
The package will also contain a 60-page hardcover book with previously unseen photos and new liner notes from all four band members: David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison.
The Blu-ray will offer Dolby ATMOS and 5.1 surround sound mixes, along with concert footage from the Entermedia Theatre and another concert recorded at Sproul Plaza, University of California, Berkeley.
Originally released in July 1978, 'More Songs About Buildings and Food' reached #29 on the U.S. charts and featured the band's first hit single, a cover of Al Green's 'Take Me To The River,' which was reworked to a slower tempo under the guidance of producer Brian Eno.
This album marked the first collaboration between Talking Heads and producer Brian Eno, who would go on to work with the band on their subsequent albums.
Recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas, the album is significant in the band's history and represents a notable evolution towards more rhythmic and soulful sounds.
Frontman David Byrne emphasized that recording the band live together in the studio helped them feel more comfortable and contributed to the album's unique sound.
In addition to the hit cover of 'Take Me to the River,' the album features notable tracks like 'Artists Only' and 'Stay Hungry,' and is recognized for its distinctive Polaroid mosaic cover photo taken by the band members.
A second vinyl version will be available on the band's website, including reissues of four international 7-inch singles, a two-LP black vinyl edition, and a limited red vinyl pressing.
As a preview of the release, Talking Heads have shared an alternative version of the track 'Found A Job,' which is now available for streaming.
Looking ahead, the band has additional surprises planned for their anniversary celebrations, and David Byrne is reportedly working on new music following his project 'American Utopia.'
