This announcement follows a multi-billion dollar agreement between Qantas and Perth Airport aimed at improving tourism and infrastructure.

To support this expansion, Perth Airport is enhancing capacity in Terminals 3 and 4, which is a temporary measure until new terminal facilities are completed by 2031.

Both new routes will utilize Qantas A330 aircraft, which feature 27 lie-flat business class seats and 224 economy seats.

Bookings for these new flights are now available, marking a significant step in Qantas's network expansion.

Cam Wallace, Qantas International chief executive, highlighted the economic benefits of these new routes, particularly in terms of boosting inbound tourism and job creation in Western Australia.

The direct flight to Johannesburg will improve access to popular South African destinations, including Cape Town, through a partnership with Airlink.

Qantas had previously operated seasonal flights on the Auckland route until January 2018, when the service was discontinued.

By 2031, Qantas aims to increase its capacity from Perth by adding 4.4 million seats, establishing the city as its 'western hub'.

Qantas is set to enhance its international connectivity by launching two new direct routes from Perth to Johannesburg and Auckland, starting in December 2025.

The non-stop flights to Auckland will commence on December 8, 2025, operating three times a week, while the Johannesburg route will also provide significant travel options.

The new Auckland-Perth flights will facilitate one-stop connections to major cities like London, Paris, and Rome, as well as various airports in South Africa.

Together, these new routes will add over 155,000 additional seats annually, enhancing travel options for Australians.
