On June 15, 2025, Shooter Jennings announced the release of three albums featuring previously unheard songs by his father, Waylon Jennings, coinciding with Waylon's birthday and Father's Day.

The first album, titled 'Songbird,' is set to be released on October 3, 2025, and is now available for pre-order.

The title track, 'Songbird,' is a tender cover of the Fleetwood Mac song and features contributions from contemporary country singers Ashley Monroe and Elizabeth Cook.

The release will be accompanied by a video showcasing archival footage from Waylon's 44th birthday party in 1981, along with studio clips of Shooter working with members of Waylon's backing band, The Waylors.

Shooter expressed his emotional connection to these recordings, describing them as a significant historical documentation of Waylon Jennings' life and work beyond just his released albums.

To finalize the album, Shooter collaborated with four surviving members of Waylon's band, known as the Waylors, to add finishing touches to the recordings.

While digging through old tapes, Shooter discovered a 'treasure trove' of unreleased recordings from Waylon that exceeded his expectations.

This discovery came from a locked storage room from his childhood filled with grey boxes containing his father's music tapes.

The announcement has stirred strong emotions among fans, many of whom expressed gratitude for the new music, calling it a 'true gift.'

Shooter shared that this project has given him a new purpose in life and he promises more music is on the way.

Waylon Jennings, who passed away in 2002, had not released a new album since 1998, making this announcement particularly poignant for fans.

Following Waylon's death, several posthumous albums were released, with the last being 'Going Down Rocking: The Last Recordings' in 2012.
