The fire originated in one home and quickly spread to the adjacent house, prompting the extensive firefighting response.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at approximately 4:22 PM on June 22, 2025, prompting a rapid response from multiple fire crews across Essex.

Firefighters from Burnham and Maldon were the first on the scene and quickly requested additional support due to the fire's severity, leading to the involvement of crews from South Woodham Ferrers, Witham, Tollesbury, and Rochford, along with an Aerial Ladder Platform from Chelmsford.

Fortunately, despite the extensive damage to the properties, there were no reported injuries.

Incident commander Dan Wastell confirmed that the fire had engulfed both houses, which were described as 'fully alight'.

Fire crews worked diligently throughout the evening to bring the blaze under control, managing to do so by around 8 PM.

Although the fire was reported to be under control by 7 PM, smoke continued to pose a concern for nearby residents.

Residents in the vicinity were advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke emanating from the fire.

The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service expressed gratitude to local residents for their understanding and cooperation during the incident.

A fire investigation is scheduled for June 23, 2025, to determine the cause of the incident.

The incident was scaled back at 8 PM as relief crews took over from the original responders.
