Hull Funeral Director Charged with 63 Offences, Involving Fraud and Theft from 12 Charities
June 25, 2025
Robert Bush, a funeral director from Hull, has been charged with 63 offences following an investigation into human remains discovered at his business premises on Hessle Road in March 2024.
Among the charges, Bush faces one count of fraudulent trading related to funeral plans sold between May 2012 and March 2024, as well as theft from various charities, including the Salvation Army and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The alleged thefts, which involve 12 charities, occurred from September 2017 to March 2024, affecting organizations such as the RNLI, Help for Heroes, and Dove House Hospice.
Deputy Chief Constable Dave Marshall revealed that a total of 254 victims are involved in the case, with 172 impacted by fraudulent funeral plans and 50 by issues related to human ashes.
Bush was granted bail with conditions requiring him to report to Bridlington Police Station on weekdays, and he left Hull Magistrates' Court discreetly, wearing a baseball cap and dark glasses.
During the brief hearing at Hull Magistrates' Court on June 25, 2025, Bush confirmed his name, date of birth, and address, but did not enter any pleas as the charges were read.
Bush is scheduled for a subsequent hearing at Hull Crown Court on August 13, 2025.
Victim support services are available for those affected by the investigation, and police have urged the public to respect the privacy of the victims.
