Cartken, an autonomous robotics startup known for its delivery robots, is shifting its focus from last-mile delivery to industrial robotics, driven by strong market demand and new opportunities.

Originally designed for food delivery across various terrains, Cartken's robots are now being adapted for industrial environments, with capabilities to handle obstacles and diverse settings.

This strategic pivot aims to explore new industrial market opportunities, potentially expanding its reach and applications beyond its initial focus.

The move was prompted by interest from companies seeking to utilize Cartken's robots in factories and labs, highlighting a significant need for automation in material and production flows.

Backed by over $20 million in venture capital funding, Cartken's shift to industrial applications is supported by data showing a strong demand for automation across various industries.

CEO Christian Bersch revealed that the idea of applying their robots in industrial settings was always part of the company's development plan.

The company has strengthened its partnership with Mitsubishi, which plans to purchase nearly 100 Cartken Hauler robots for use in Japanese industrial facilities, signaling growing demand in sectors like automotive and pharmaceuticals.

Cartken's initial success in industrial applications was demonstrated by its collaboration with German manufacturer ZF Lifetec, which used the robots to transport production samples, prompting further focus on industrial markets.

To meet industrial demands, Cartken has introduced new models such as the Cartken Hauler, capable of carrying up to 660 pounds, and the Cartken Runner for indoor deliveries, along with developing a robotic forklift.

While continuing its food delivery operations, including on college campuses and in urban areas like Tokyo, the company is now strategically realigning toward industrial robotics.
