A brief break from the wild weather is expected on July 22 before another cold front arrives on July 23.

Forecasts indicate thunderstorms could bring up to 35mm of rain and wind speeds of 30 km/h to the region.

Senior meteorologist Angeline Prasad noted that this cold front is windier than typical winter fronts, impacting the South West about five times annually.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised residents to prepare for the storm, which has already caused roof damage and water leaks in some homes.

A severe weather warning has been issued for southern Western Australia, including Perth, due to a cold front expected to bring damaging winds and heavy rain this afternoon, July 20, 2025.

A strong wind warning is also in effect for various parts of Western Australia as heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Despite the upcoming rain, July's total rainfall remains below the historical average at 105.2mm, with the annual total for 2025 reaching 329mm.

The week's weather forecast predicts a temperature range from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, with a mix of conditions including rain and sunshine.

Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 90 km/h from Mandurah to Cape Leeuwin, with Perth experiencing winds of up to 80 km/h and rainfall between 15 to 30 mm.

While the likelihood is low, there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms in Perth this evening, along with hail in the South West and early snow flurries on Bluff Knoll.

Rain is expected to ease from Friday, but another cold front could bring an additional 20mm of rain to Perth on Sunday, July 27.
