On July 26, 2025, a violent stabbing incident occurred at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, where a 42-year-old man randomly attacked 11 people during a calm shopping afternoon.

The attack appeared to be random, with victims selected without clear motive, starting near the checkout area of the store.

The suspect used a folding knife in the attack, which began shortly before 5 p.m., leaving six victims in critical condition and five in serious condition.

Among the 11 victims, three are undergoing surgery, with six males and five females among those injured.

The stabbing victims, ranging in age from 29 to 84, included one Walmart employee; all are expected to survive, with two individuals in serious condition.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and all victims were transported to Munson Healthcare, the region's largest hospital for treatment.

As of Sunday morning, seven victims are reported to be in fair condition while four are in serious condition, according to Munson Healthcare.

Bystanders quickly intervened, surrounding the suspect and successfully detaining him until law enforcement arrived approximately three minutes later.

The suspect was apprehended by a sheriff's deputy shortly after the attack, which was described as a random act of violence.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her condolences and gratitude to first responders for their swift action, while Walmart condemned the violence and pledged cooperation with law enforcement.

The Michigan State Police, alongside the local sheriff's office and the FBI, are investigating the incident and have requested that the public avoid the area during the ongoing inquiry.

The suspect is expected to face one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder, and he is currently in county jail.
