This program will consist of a 10-week hybrid training series focused on foundational AI understanding and practical skills for media professionals.
Participants will engage in weekly deep-dive sessions, hands-on exercises, mentoring, and collaborative problem-solving.
Throughout the program, participants will learn to use AI for various tasks, including transcribing interviews and videos, extracting insights, analyzing datasets, and tailoring content for diverse audiences.
They will also utilize Google's AI tools such as NotebookLM, Gemini, AI Studio, and Pinpoint to enhance newsroom workflows and storytelling capabilities.
Applications for the AI Skills Academy are open from today until August 14, 2025, with eligibility details available online.
This initiative is part of Google's ongoing commitment to support newsrooms in exploring the potential of AI.
Durga Raghunath, Head of News Partnerships at Google India, highlighted the positive impact of AI tools in journalism, particularly in transcription, translation, and presentations.
Prof. Anubhuti Yadav, Head of the Department of New Media at IIMC, emphasized that the partnership prepares students for an AI-driven media landscape, fostering innovation and integrity in journalism.
She noted that the program will enable students to thrive in an AI-powered media ecosystem while maintaining journalistic integrity.
