Google has canceled its annual 'Google at Parliament House' event, which was set to feature the rock band The Rubens, in light of a new law announced by the Albanese government.

This law mandates that YouTube restrict access for Australians under the age of 16, leading to the inclusion of the platform in Australia's social media ban.

The cancellation, which occurred on July 30, 2025, was made to show respect for grieving families present at the press conference with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The decision was particularly sensitive as it came after testimonies from parents of children who have suffered due to harmful online material.

The concert was scheduled to take place at Parliament House in Canberra, a venue known for its significant hiring costs and advance booking requirements.

While the main YouTube platform will be banned for users under 16 starting December 10, 2025, YouTube Kids will remain unaffected by this legislation.
