Rescue efforts led to the successful retrieval of four people from the debris, while teams continued to search for others still trapped.

Three aftershocks followed the initial quake, measuring 4.6, 4.1, and 4.0 in magnitude, all originating from Sindirgi.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that none of the injured individuals were in serious condition, and Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu confirmed that four people were hospitalized without life-threatening injuries.

Search and rescue operations concluded with no additional casualties reported, although extensive destruction was evident in Sindirgi, where many buildings, including a pharmacy and two mosque minarets, were destroyed.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences on social media, wishing for a swift recovery for those affected and emphasizing the need for disaster preparedness.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 11 kilometers, with the German Research Centre for Geosciences recording a slightly higher magnitude of 6.19.

A total of 319 rescue workers were deployed to the affected area, and the emergency call center received 24 reports of damage.

Rescue teams were seen asking for silence to listen for potential survivors beneath the rubble, as they conducted operations amidst the aftershocks.

The earthquake was classified as having a shake intensity of 4 or greater, which is defined by the U.S.G.S. as 'light', though it may have been felt beyond the immediate area.

Seismologists are expected to revise the reported magnitude and update the shake-severity map as they analyze additional data from the earthquake.

While one man succumbed to his injuries, local officials, including Balikesir's mayor Ahmet Akin, expressed hope that there would be no further loss of life as rescue efforts continued.
