Beechcraft B200 Emergency Landing Disrupts 115 Flights at Birmingham Airport
August 6, 2025
Birmingham Airport's runway has reopened following an emergency landing of a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, which caused significant delays and cancellations.
The incident led to over 115 flights being disrupted, affecting tens of thousands of passengers, with 21 inbound flights diverted to other airports such as Stansted and Manchester.
The Civil Aviation Authority has been notified, and an investigation into the emergency landing is currently underway.
Fortunately, all three individuals on board the aircraft, including two crew members and one passenger, were unharmed despite the main undercarriage collapsing upon touchdown.
Passengers affected by the disruptions are expected to receive food, drink, and accommodation as necessary, in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority guidelines.
Many passengers expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding their flights, including Camile Monteleone, who was waiting for updates about her flight to Barcelona.
Diana Celella, another affected traveler, voiced her disappointment with Ryanair's communication regarding her delayed flight from Lisbon.
As a gesture of support, the Campaign for Real Ale offered stranded passengers a free pint at the Great British Beer Festival for those who presented their boarding passes.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruptions but noted that the overall impact was minimal.
Birmingham Airport, the seventh-largest in the UK, handled approximately 11.5 million passengers in 2023 and serves around 30 airlines with over 130 direct routes.
During the runway closure, three flights were redirected to East Midlands Airport, which later stated they could not accommodate further diversions without affecting their own services.
The specific details regarding the aircraft involved in the incident have not yet been disclosed by the airport.
