September 8, 2025
The K-AI Alliance, initiated by SK Telecom in February 2023 with seven Korean AI companies, has grown to 37 members in two years and now targets the global AI market.
On September 5, 2025, SK Telecom held the 'K-AI Alliance Global Meet-up' in Tokyo, marking its first official event in Japan to attract investment and foster international business cooperation.
During the event, SK Telecom announced a strategic partnership and investment agreement with TimeTree, which has approximately 67 million users worldwide, to jointly develop advanced AI agent services.
The event saw participation from major Japanese firms like NTT Inc., Mitsubishi Corp., and Mizuho Bank, along with AI startups such as Preferred Networks and venture capital firms including NTT Docomo Ventures and PKSHA Technology.
AI agents are autonomous programs capable of executing tasks across multiple applications without human input, offering potential for recurring engagement and new revenue streams, contrasting with generative AI which primarily creates content based on prompts.
A technological advancement called 'Agentic Workflow' enables AI agents to set goals, plan, and execute tasks proactively based on user activity history, significantly enhancing AI performance.
TimeTree's CEO, Chajin Park, emphasized that their AI will utilize schedules as natural action triggers, leveraging their large dataset to develop schedule-centered AI, marking a strategic shift from Japan to Korea and beyond.
SK Telecom is actively expanding its AI agent service ecosystem and aims to strengthen its presence in the Japanese AI market by integrating its AI technology with TimeTree, a popular calendar-sharing platform.
Seventeen members from SK Telecom and the K-AI Alliance, along with Japanese conglomerates and startups, gathered to showcase innovations across AI transition, infrastructure, robotics, and AI services.
This alliance, now comprising 17 Korean AI firms, aims to leverage collective expertise to expand into international markets.
The partnership, formalized through a signed agreement in Tokyo on September 8, 2025, signifies TimeTree’s expansion from Japan into Korea and other markets, leading a new paradigm of schedule-centered AI development.
