The UK home entertainment market reached a record value of £5.7 billion in 2025, driven by purchases, streaming, and rentals of TV shows and films, with Wicked and its sequel delivering a major sales and rental lift.

Conclave topped the 2025 rental titles at around £4 million, while Gladiator II and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy also performed prominently on the Official Video Chart.

Wicked and Wicked: For Good, both filmed in the UK, were standout titles of the year, with combined sales and rentals totaling £17.7 million and strong chart performance.

Smaller streaming platforms grew in 2025, including Discovery (3.2 million homes), Apple TV (2.8 million), and Now (2 million) households, alongside more cinema-to-home titles at higher prices.

The market saw continued growth of smaller services, with Discovery, Apple TV, and Now reaching millions of UK households in 2025.

Looking ahead to 2026, expected new titles include The Running Man, The Housemaid, Marty Supreme, The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants, Avatar: Fire & Ash, and anticipated summer releases like Supergirl, Minions 3, Scream 7, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Liz Bales, CEO of Base, highlighted the UK's talent, innovation, and diverse consumer options, signaling continued growth and new partnerships in 2026.

Streaming remains dominant in UK home viewing, with 20.5 million homes using at least one streaming service and 69.5% of the population watching; Netflix leads with 17.6 million subscribers, followed by Prime Video and Disney+, while other services grow.

Physical media remains relevant, with notable DVD and Blu-ray activity; Downton Abbey: The Finale sold 56,500 DVD units in two weeks, and Superman led the Blu-ray chart, helping Blu-ray market value rise by about 3.2% in 2025.

There was a higher volume of cinema-to-home releases in 2025, with 79 titles released fresh from the cinema (up from 62 in 2024), contributing to higher prices for new releases.
