October 18, 2026
McLaren Racing is selling five historic Formula 1 cars spanning 1991 to 2023, driven by famous figures including Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and Brad Pitt.
Chassis 04 and Chassis 07 (which finished second at the San Marino and British Grands Prix, respectively) remain in McLaren’s possession, and the cars will be offered individually to suitable buyers.
Hartley Jr. said there is no time pressure and emphasized that McLaren will ensure each car goes to the right home.
In 2025, Mercedes posted revenue in the mid- $800 millions range and finished second in the Teams’ standings, with continued growth anticipated for 2026.
No prices were disclosed in the announcement.
Colton Herta is 19th of 23 in Formula 2, with F2 CEO Bruno Michel noting the transition from IndyCar is challenging and uncertainty remains about Herta’s plans for next season.
F3 testing in Jerez will give teams a chance to evaluate young drivers and collect data for the next season.
McLaren is also focusing on restoring archival material and expanding racing activities, including Alex Lynn joining its 2027 Hypercar programme while competing in the F1 Constructors’ Championship.
Norris’s 2025 world championship adds modern significance to the post-2010 McLaren cars (MCL35M and MCL37A), underscoring the revival era and potential marketing value of the collection.
Ugo Uguchukwu won the Formula 3 championship this season; post-season testing in Jerez is set for October 20-21, with Barcelona-Catalunya tests on October 26-27.
McLaren states the five cars were kept in its custody since ending their competition careers and will be prepared by McLaren before delivery, with no prices published yet.
Car Dealer Live 2027 will feature Tom Hartley Jnr as a headline speaker on March 16, 2027, at the British Motor Museum, sponsored by Auto Trader.
