Thailand SEC Targets Bitget for Unauthorized Crypto Trading; Users Urged to Withdraw by December 5
November 5, 2026
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of Bitget, for allegedly running a crypto trading platform without a license.
The regulator says Bitget operated for 2022–2025, offering services to Thai customers without the required license and charging fees, with promotions on Thai-language sites and social media.
Investigations indicate Bitget provided crypto trading services to Thai users and promoted them in Thai, violating the country’s digital asset licensing rules.
Investigators will forward the charges to prosecutors, who will decide on adjudication in court between 2026 and 2027.
Users are advised to withdraw or move assets on Bitget before the December 5 deadline.
The SEC has notified the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to block Bitget’s access in Thailand from December 5, including its website, related domains, and mobile app.
Separately, the SEC is seeking to block access to Bitget by December 5 by providing information about Bitget’s online properties to the Ministry for restrictions.
Bitget did not comment when approached for remark.
The enforcement comes as Bitget had announced plans to acquire a licensed Thai crypto exchange, signaling intensified scrutiny of unlicensed platforms.
SEC findings include Thai-language website, pricing in Thai baht, and social media campaigns targeting Thailand, indicating intent to operate in the Thai market.
Thailand’s 2025 decree empowers authorities to restrict access to unlicensed crypto platforms to protect investors and combat financial crime, with the crypto licensing framework tightened in 2025 to cover foreign platforms.
The licensing framework, introduced in 2018 and tightened in 2025, grants enhanced powers to block unlicensed exchanges targeting Thai users.
