$12.6M Boost for Housing in East Pilbara: Infrastructure Fund Targets Remote Development
February 19, 2026
This project is one of three regional developments in the current round, collectively supporting up to 160 dwellings across Greater Geraldton, Carnarvon, and Kiwirrkurra.
The funding will deliver 10 dwellings in the Kiwirrkurra community, addressing water, wastewater, and electricity infrastructure constraints that have limited housing delivery in the Gibson Desert region.
So far, Stream 3 has committed over $35.8 million to enable about 900 new key worker or community housing dwellings across the regions.
The East Pilbara will receive up to $12.6 million from Western Australia’s Infrastructure Development Fund under Stream 3 to support new community and key worker housing in Kiwirrkurra.
The program aims to boost regional housing supply, which in turn is expected to support regional workforce, industries, and overall economic growth.
Stream 3 targets complex utility barriers that have made regional housing projects financially unviable, with the goal of unlocking housing delivery in remote areas.
Local representatives say the investment will help overcome utility connection costs and unlock more land for housing in regional WA, enabling more homes and regional growth.
