It is part of the PA Turnpike/I-95 Interchange Program aimed at reducing congestion on local roads and improving regional traffic flow.

A four-lane bridge will replace the aging 1956 structure that currently carries more than 67,000 vehicles daily, including substantial truck traffic, with the goal of easing congestion over time.

Funding was secured after senators urged federal support from the U.S. Department of Transportation to back the project.

Funding comes from the FY 2025 Bridge Investment Program to widen the span, support long-term traffic growth, and enhance safety, reliability, resilience, and flood protection.

The project will proceed through an alternatives analysis phase followed by design work, addressing Pennsylvania’s high number of structurally deficient bridges.

Funding will be managed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as part of the PA Turnpike/I-95 Interchange Program, with timelines to be determined as planning and engineering proceed.
