£127.8M Boost for UK Cultural Venues: Major Arts Funding Announced
April 13, 2026
Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival will receive £468,701 for upgrades like modernising concert hall systems.
Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire is set to get £1.55 million for essential roof and drainage repairs, while Derbyshire Libraries will receive £440,000 to refurbish three sites with flexible spaces and bookable rooms.
Arts Council England will administer £127.8 million from DCMS across three funds: £96 million for the Creative Foundations Fund to address infrastructure needs in 74 venues, £25.5 million for the Mend fund to upgrade infrastructure and visitor experience in 28 museums, and £6.3 million for the Libraries Improvement Fund to boost building and technology upgrades in 28 libraries.
Culture is framed as for everyone and essential to community cohesion and national identity, not a luxury for a few, according to a key ministerial advocate.
A full list of CFF recipients spans a wide range of organizations, including major venues and arts groups such as the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, The Lowry Centre Trust, Baltic Flour Mills Visual Arts Trust, among others.
Senior ministers emphasize community pride and belonging, noting the fund’s aim to back venues that matter most to local communities and to help spaces thrive for years to come.
The funding is described as repairing creaking cultural infrastructure after years of cuts to ACE funding, marking what’s called the biggest arts reset in a generation, following prior reductions and earlier £270 million announcements.
