Bowen was found dead at her home in Coral Springs during a wellness check; police describe foul play suspected in what is being treated as a domestic violence incident, with her husband in custody.

Police discovered Bowen’s body in the 800 block of Northwest 127 Avenue after responding to concerns about her well-being.

The death is under investigation, and Bowen had been weeks away from announcing a bid for Congress.

Reports indicate Bowen planned to enter the Democratic primary for the seat held by Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, with a campaign launch anticipated imminently.

Bowen had a historic political trajectory in Coral Springs, serving as the first Black and Haitian American woman commissioner, later becoming vice mayor and preparing for a larger congressional run.

Her recent roles included vice mayor since 2020, reelection in 2024, and appointment to a second term in 2025; she also served as Vice Chair of Haitian Outreach for the Florida Democratic Party.

Investigators stated there are no additional suspects at this time and ongoing work is focused on understanding the circumstances of the death.
