Florida Board of Governors Launches Comprehensive University Governance Review for Best Practices
June 23, 2026
A special Board of Governors meeting will be scheduled promptly to consider three items: nominating Dr. Stuart Bell as President of the University of Florida, extending FGCU President Timur Alioglu’s contract for a full year, and UF’s housing plan approval request.
The Florida Board of Governors will conduct a comprehensive governance review of all state universities, engaging a third-party expert to assess governance documents, delegated authorities, and BOG policies.
The Board plans to adopt beneficial policy changes to ensure Florida’s universities adopt best governance practices.
UF Board of Trustees agreed to cooperate and supported the use of an external governance expert to establish best practices for system-wide university governance.
Chair Levine stressed that governance issues must be resolved before moving on to other agenda items, highlighting productive discussions with UF that led to this governance-review approach.
