The 2026 Iowa State Fair drew a record 1,218,834 visitors over 11 days, topping the previous 2024 record and marking a historic turnout across multiple categories.

Lainey Wilson’s Grandstand concert on August 16 drew more than 17,000 fans, setting a Grandstand attendance record.

The fair’s largest single-day crowd occurred on a Saturday, with about 131,000 attendees.

In addition to the fair itself, the package includes related local and state news items such as e-bike/scooter ordinances, canoe trail planning, a railway dig volunteer opportunity, aerobatic championships, and wage-theft probes, providing regional context.

The Minneapolis Pie Stand, a fair staple since 2009, was recognized this year for its standout booth performance.

New fair offerings topped 80 items, with Porky Parm Gnocchi winning Best New Food after 15,954 votes; The Depot’s Sour Batch Buddies Watermelon and JR’s Cotton Rocket Cooler tied for Best New Drink with alcohol, while Fizz Depot’s Stars, Stripes & S’mores led Best New Non-Alcoholic Drink.

A Common Sense Institute report estimates the fair contributed $199 million to Iowa’s GDP, with visitor and out-of-state spending comprising significant portions.

Milestones marked at the fair included five decades for the Century Award and long-running traditions like the hog calling contest and the Hot Beef Sundae, alongside notable anniversaries for the butter cow sculptor and other exhibits.

Caleb Meiners of Ottumwa won the 2026 Bill Riley Talent Search, taking home $10,000 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

The Governor’s Charity Steer Show raised a record $572,000 for state charity efforts.
