A magnitude-7.7 earthquake in Flores, Indonesia left nearly 190,000 people displaced, with 188,161 still displaced as of Aug. 30 according to BNPB.

There is an urgent need for temporary housing or relocation for more than 27,000 severely damaged homes, underscoring housing recovery as a major ongoing challenge alongside education and infrastructure rehabilitation.

The national logistics operation has distributed the vast majority of relief supplies, delivering about 1.95 million kilograms out of roughly 1.99 million received between Aug. 15–30 to Maumere and Labuan Bajo distribution centers.

BNPB reported 111 deaths and 1,631 injuries from the disaster, including 223 serious injuries, with an assessment listing about 95,567 damaged homes (27,414 severely, 21,992 moderately, 46,161 lightly).

Displacement is concentrated in Nagekeo and Manggarai regencies, with 50,574 and 50,556 people displaced respectively, while evacuations also occurred across East Manggarai, West Manggarai, Ngada, Sikka and Ende.

Relief consignments totaling 16.4 tons out of 17.7 tons were delivered to affected areas by road and air as of Sept. 1.

Education disruption is severe: by Aug. 23, 1,918 facilities affected (665 severely damaged), 141,207 students unable to attend classes, and 48,164 school community members displaced; 89 emergency-classroom tents had been installed by Aug. 30, far short of the 2,908 temporary classrooms requested for 785 schools.

The initial quake was followed by 9,765 aftershocks through Aug. 30, including 155 felt by residents, and BNPB cautioned that such aftershocks can continue for three to four weeks.
