Swedish startup Minesto has developed an innovative tidal energy technology featuring a large underwater 'kite'.

The largest kite, called Dragon 12, with a wingspan of 12 meters, is expected to generate 1.2 MW of clean electricity, capable of powering around 1,000 homes.

Minesto's technology is unique due to its small, modular, scalable design which enables faster electricity generation compared to the speed of flowing water.

Supported by the European Regional Development Fund, Minesto plans to build a 120 MW tidal kite capacity in the Faroe Islands, potentially supplying 40% of the archipelago's electricity needs.
