Xbox Reveals Stunning Sky Cipher Controller with Nostalgic Transparent Design and Eco-Friendly Packaging
July 31, 2024
Xbox has unveiled the Sky Cipher Special Edition controller, set to launch on August 13 for $70.
This new controller features a striking transparent blue design that showcases its internal components, a nod to the nostalgic translucent tech of the 1990s.
The Sky Cipher controller is equipped with standard features such as a share button, Bluetooth support, and a USB-C charging port, ensuring compatibility across various devices.
It also boasts a sophisticated look with metallic sky blue accents and rubberized grips that enhance gameplay.
In line with sustainability efforts, the packaging for the Sky Cipher controller is 22% smaller and 21% lighter than previous versions, eliminating single-use plastics.
This controller marks the first to be shipped in the new environmentally friendly packaging, aligning with Microsoft's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The resurgence of translucent designs in tech products is evident, with other brands like Dbrand also capitalizing on this trend.
While transparent controllers are still produced, they are primarily made by third-party manufacturers rather than major companies like Microsoft.
The controller's design not only emphasizes aesthetics but also functionality, with features like visible rumble packs during gameplay.
Unlike some of Microsoft's custom controllers that are limited to social media competitions, the Sky Cipher is readily available for preorder.
The excitement surrounding the new controller is palpable, especially among gamers looking to upgrade from older models experiencing issues like thumbstick drift.
