Apple is making a strategic move to revive its declining sales by introducing the iPhone 17 Air, as non-Pro models have struggled in recent years due to a lack of innovative features.

This new device marks the first significant redesign since the iPhone 14 Plus, which was released in 2022.

The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to feature a thinner profile, potentially measuring under 6mm, aligning with recent design trends seen in the M4 iPad Pro.

However, Apple faces challenges in fitting standard iPhone components into this slimmer chassis, necessitating design adjustments for the iPhone 17 Air.

To maintain a lower cost and achieve the desired thinness, the device may incorporate a simplified camera system, likely featuring a single 48MP sensor.

In a bid to attract more customers, Apple plans to price the iPhone 17 Air lower than the iPhone 17 Pro.

This move comes in response to recent sales data indicating that the iPhone 16 series sold 12% fewer units than the iPhone 15 series, with baseline models outperforming the Pro versions.

In addition to the iPhone 17 Air, Apple is also reportedly developing foldable devices, although these are expected to be released later, with a flip-style iPhone and a larger 19-inch foldable device slated for 2027.
