Apple is gearing up to launch new in-house Wi-Fi chips across all upcoming iPhone 17 models, as reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

While the iPhone 16 models support Wi-Fi 7 using Broadcom's chip, their specifications are somewhat limited.

The upcoming C2 chip, known internally as C4020, is expected to deliver significant performance enhancements over its predecessor, the C1 chip.

The C2 chip is anticipated to support mmWave technology, which could enable download speeds of up to 6 gigabits per second.

These advancements aim to create a tightly integrated wireless setup that minimizes battery consumption across cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies.

Apple's transition to in-house chips is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on external suppliers, having already moved away from Qualcomm's mobile SoCs.

Although the new Wi-Fi chip will be distinct from the recently introduced C1 modem, there are plans for future integration into a single, more energy-efficient component.

This shift to in-house Wi-Fi technology represents a significant move for Apple, allowing greater control over hardware components.

Wi-Fi 7 technology, which Apple is adopting, allows for simultaneous data transmission across multiple frequency bands, significantly enhancing data transfer rates.
