Sony Restocks Limited Edition 30th Anniversary PS5 Controller, Pre-Orders Open in Select Regions
July 14, 2025
While other limited edition items have been extremely scarce, the 30th Anniversary controller is widely regarded as attractive and highly desirable among fans.
Pre-orders will be available exclusively through direct.playstation.com, with early access for PlayStation Plus subscribers beginning on July 21, 2025, and general pre-orders opening on July 23, 2025, in regions like Canada, France, Italy, Ireland, Japan, and the UK, with a release scheduled for September 2025.
In Canada, the controller will be available for pre-order on July 23 at 10 a.m. local time, and in the UK, the collection will launch on September 29, 2025.
The relaunch does not include the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge, disappointing some fans who hoped for a more premium version.
Pricing details have not yet been announced but are expected to be similar to standard editions of the PS5 Digital, DualSense Controller, and PlayStation Portal.
Sony is restocking its highly sought-after 30th Anniversary Limited Edition DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5, which features a classic PS1 gray color scheme and original iconography, after it sold out quickly during its initial release in September 2024.
In addition to the controller, Sony is reintroducing the 30th Anniversary Collection, including the PS5 Digital Edition, PlayStation Portal, and the controller in select regions such as Canada, France, Italy, Ireland, Japan, and the UK, with pre-orders starting in late July.
Sony is limiting preorders to PlayStation Plus subscribers to curb scalper purchases, a strategy reflecting broader industry efforts to manage high demand and online sales more effectively.
The restock is highly limited, aiming to reduce previous frustrations among fans, but many may still miss out due to the emphasis on 'highly limited quantities.'
The restock will only be available through the PlayStation Store, with no confirmation if other platforms like Amazon or Best Buy will carry it.
The PS5's player base has grown significantly compared to the PS4, indicating a larger market for this limited edition release.
The controller's design pays homage to the original PlayStation with a gray colorway and colorful accents, replacing the standard black logo and featuring the original icon where the home button is located.
In Japan, the release date for these items is set for September 9, 2025, aligning with the same date as in Canada.
