Google Enhances Snapseed for iPhone with Manual Camera Controls and Retro Film Emulation
February 19, 2026
Google updates Snapseed on iPhone with an integrated camera that adds manual controls—ISO, shutter, focus, flash, and zoom—and supports shooting with saved looks and editing stacks from within the app.
The camera is now accessible directly from the main Snapseed interface via a top-right icon, moving beyond the earlier December 2025 hidden activations.
Users can use camera tools inside Snapseed instead of relying on lock screen or control center shortcuts.
The viewfinder is configurable with color themes such as Editor, Dusk, Negative, Steel, Haze, and Depth.
The update, released on February 19, 2026, highlights these additions and their impact on user experience.
Google plans to bring the redesigned editor—from iPhone/iPad—over to Android in a future update.
The camera includes real-time retro film emulation styles inspired by Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Gold 200, and Fuji stocks, plus Polaroid and Technicolor, previewable before capture.
New presets expand creative looks with retro film-inspired filters, reinforcing the in-app cinematic styles.
The update introduces multiple UI color themes to customize the app’s appearance alongside camera features.
Interface changes relocate flash to the bottom-left and place zoom on the opposite side for easier one-handed use.
Photos shot with the Snapseed camera stay fully editable in the editing stack, preserving the original edits and allowing changes after saving.
