India Allocates Rs 203 Crore to Boost Global Telecom Standards with New TDIP Scheme
April 22, 2026
The revised TDIP Scheme allocates Rs 203 crore for 2026–2031 to help Indian entities participate in global standards, drive innovation, and boost competitiveness in advanced telecom technologies including 5G Advanced and 6G.
Implementation will be carried out by designated agencies—TSDSI, Telecom Centres of Excellence, India (TCoE), and Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL)—to coordinate participation and capacity building.
The scheme aims to raise India’s representation in international standardization bodies such as ITU, 3GPP, and oneM2M by funding Indian participation in meetings, technical contributions, leadership roles, and hosting events in India.
Industry guidance and public communication will come via PIB Delhi Release ID 2254633, dated 22 April 2026, signaling official dissemination of the information.
The beneficiary base is expanded to startups, MSMEs, academia, and research institutions, with added support for pilots and PoC deployments to translate lab research into deployable technologies.
TDIP supports pilot projects, proof-of-concept initiatives, and technology demonstrations to bridge research and real-world deployment, strengthening the innovation pipeline.
Beyond standardization, the scheme funds pilots, PoCs, and demonstrations to move from research to commercial deployment.
TDIP guidelines explicitly aim to ease the transition from research to real-world deployment through targeted pilot and demonstration funding.
Policy relevance includes reducing import dependency, advancing Atmanirbhar Bharat in telecom, shaping global standards with Indian IP, capturing a share of the anticipated trillions-dollar 6G economy by 2030, empowering startups to scale IP internationally, and strengthening India’s digital diplomacy by hosting events and leading ITU study groups, while accelerating rural connectivity via 5G-Advanced and 6G standards emphasizing coverage and cost.
