Proton Drive Launches Secure macOS and iPhone Integration with Enhanced Sharing Features
October 1, 2026
macOS integration brings Finder access to Proton Drive, letting users keep files online or download locally for offline use, while iPhone access supports uploading, organizing, offline access, and automatic photo/video backups.
Proton Drive encrypts files on the user’s device before upload, so Proton cannot view contents, and it uses cryptographic signatures to ensure file authenticity; the apps are open source and independently audited.
Files and folders can be shared via links or direct sharing, with permissions, password protection, expiration dates, and easy access revocation controls.
The interface groups content into distinct areas—Files, Photos, Computers, and items shared with the user—accessible after signing in or creating a Proton Account.
The service is available across web, Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android apps, and includes a command-line interface for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Proton Drive is an end-to-end encrypted cloud storage solution for storing, syncing, backing up, and sharing files, and also includes Proton Docs and Proton Sheets for in-environment collaboration.
User testing highlighted seamless movement between Mac and iPhone, with uploaded files appearing on both devices and Finder integration that behaves like native file operations.
