The Ministry of Culture launched the XII International Theater Festival of the Dominican Republic 2025 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, marking the start of a ten-day celebration of theater across the country.

Led by Culture Minister Roberto Ángel Salcedo, the festival features Spain as the guest country and honors prominent figures like cultural promoter Freddy Ginebra and the Spanish company Teatro Corsario, which is the guest of honor.

Under the theme 'El teatro somos todos' ('We Are All Theater'), the festival runs from October 19 to 30 across multiple provinces, highlighting government efforts to make culture accessible nationwide.

The event will include 75 performances in eight provinces, showcasing 15 international companies from Latin America and Europe, 17 Dominican groups, four state ensembles, and artists from the Dominican diaspora in the U.S.

The opening performance was Teatro Corsario’s 'El alcalde de Zalamea,' a classic from Spain’s Golden Age, and the festival also pays tribute to theater artists who passed away this year.

To promote accessibility, ticket prices are set at RD$200 at the Teatro Nacional, encouraging broader public participation.
