The God of War TV series for Prime Video has begun announcing its cast, led by Ryan Hurst as Kratos, with Mandy Patinkin joining as Odin and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson cast as Thor.

The series is being developed with Ronald D. Moore as writer and showrunner, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions, and has a two-season order from the outset.

Odin is portrayed as the most powerful Aesir and a knowledge-seeking patriarch who serves as the main villain aligned with God of War: Ragnarok lore.

The adaptation is confirmed to have a second season before the first episode airs.

Amazon is expanding its slate of video game adaptations, including Tomb Raider and Fallout, signaling a broader strategy for turning popular games into television series.

As production progresses, additional announcements are expected for principal and supporting roles to align with the game’s narrative arc.

Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes, with Moore serving as executive producer, writer, and showrunner; the project is in preproduction in Vancouver.

Executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizibash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon, while Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis are on as co-executive producers.

The series aims to mirror the God of War legacy while expanding into television, with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios producing alongside PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

The show will draw from the 2018 God of War and its 2022 Ragnarök sequel, focusing on Kratos and Atreus’s Norse journey after their Greek myth roots.
