The M25 motorway in Surrey reopened earlier than expected after a closure for bridge demolition and gantry installation.

Traffic congestion was less severe than anticipated, with a reduction in traffic levels by over 50% during the closure.

This was the first closure of its kind since the M25 opened in 1986, marking a milestone for the motorway.

The work completed is part of a larger project aiming to increase lanes at junction 10, improving one of the UK's most dangerous motorway junctions.

Four additional closures are planned through September to facilitate the project, which is set to complete by summer 2025.

The upgrades are significant for traffic to and from major airports like Heathrow and Gatwick, and drivers are encouraged to minimize M25 usage to avoid congestion.
