PhD Student Convicted of Drugging, Raping Over 10 Women; 23 More Victims Emerge Globally
April 2, 2025
Zhenhao Zou, a 28-year-old Chinese PhD student, has been convicted of drugging and raping ten women, with 23 additional women now coming forward as potential victims.
His conviction includes multiple charges, specifically 11 counts of rape and three counts of voyeurism, with evidence revealing around 50 videos featuring potential victims.
Zou specifically targeted young Chinese women, often inviting them to his flat under the guise of socializing or studying, before drugging and assaulting them.
Detectives estimate that more than 50 women worldwide may have been targeted by Zou, who has lived in various locations in London and previously studied in Belfast, though no reports from Belfast have emerged.
The Metropolitan Police believe Zou may be one of the UK's most prolific sex offenders, leading to an international appeal for victims following his recent conviction at the Inner London Crown Court in March 2025.
Metropolitan Police Commander Kevin Southworth has stressed the importance of all potential victims coming forward, regardless of their location, as Zou's crimes could have occurred globally.
The investigation is intensifying, with additional resources being allocated to identify victims and ensure they can provide evidence without further trauma, while police encourage anyone affected to contact them directly.
Zou is known to have used hidden or handheld cameras to record his sexual assaults, keeping the footage and victims' belongings as souvenirs.
