June 24, 2025
Submissions for the Say Award will open on July 1, with eligible albums being those released between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025.
Notable artists eligible for nomination include Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, Nina Nesbitt, and Erland Cooper.
Dundee has been selected to host the Scottish Album of the Year (Say) Award ceremony for the next three years, marking the first time the event will take place outside the central belt in its 14-year history.
The ceremony is scheduled for November 6, 2025, at the Caird Hall, moving from Stirling's Albion Halls, which hosted the award from 2022 to 2024.
Robert Kilpatrick, chief executive of the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), expressed excitement about the event, highlighting Dundee's vibrant music scene and cultural institutions.
Local leaders, including Councillor Lynne Short, have also shown enthusiasm for the award, emphasizing the city's rich musical heritage and creative identity.
Established in 2012, the SAY Award is considered the Scottish equivalent of the Mercury Prize, celebrating the best in Scottish music and has awarded over £390,000 to artists since its inception.
The main winner of the 2025 award will receive £20,000, while nine runners-up will each be awarded £1,000, alongside additional awards recognizing influential past albums and emerging artists.
The trophies for the 2025 awards will be designed by a local Dundee designer, honoring the city's status as a cultural hub and UNESCO City of Design.
Early bird tickets for the event are already on sale, with the previous year's winners, rEDOLENT, set to perform at the ceremony.
The ceremony will also include the Modern Scottish Classic Award for a past influential album and the Sound of Young Scotland Award for a promising new artist.
A panel of 100 impartial nominators will evaluate submissions, leading to a Longlist of 20 albums and a Shortlist of ten, with one album chosen through public voting and the rest by a judging panel.
