Urgent Recall: Tesco's British Bresaola Linked to Listeria, Poses Risk to Vulnerable Groups
April 5, 2026
On April 5, 2026, the Food Standards Agency issued a recall notice for The Curing Barn British Bresaola after confirming the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product.
The affected 60g British Bresaola packs carry batch codes WLRC, J1Z2, 0WD0 and J85J with a use-by date of June 10, 2026, and are sold at Tesco for £4.50.
Consumers who bought the item are urged not to eat it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund; receipts are not required.
In addition to the recall, point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores and warnings will appear on the retailer’s website to inform shoppers.
The recall is part of standard FSA guidance on product withdrawals and recalls, with recalls and withdrawals designed to protect consumers and communicated to local authorities and the public.
A Food Alert for Action may be issued to local authorities when appropriate to coordinate a response.
The FSA explains that recalls involve asking customers to return products, while withdrawals remove items from shelves, and both aim to safeguard public health.
Vulnerable groups include people over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Listeria infection can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, chills, vomiting, and diarrhea, and in severe cases may lead to meningitis, with higher risk for the vulnerable groups noted.
The recall notice emphasizes that the risk is particularly significant for those over 65, pregnant women, newborns, and immunocompromised individuals.
The notice situates this recall within broader guidance on how recalls work and references related warnings from authorities to provide context.
