The King and Queen will begin Royal Week in Scotland with a Royal Salute and guard of honour at Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, marking the yearly tradition of Holyrood Week as the monarch’s base.

The King will receive a formal welcome in Edinburgh with the Ceremony of the Keys, where the Lord Provost presents the city keys to him and he returns them for safekeeping.

Holyrood Week, or Royal Week, is the annual period when the monarch traditionally bases the week at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

On Wednesday, the King and Queen will attend the Order of the Thistle service at St Giles Cathedral alongside the Duke of Rothesay and the Duke of Edinburgh.
