The Victoria and Albert Museum is launching a major touring exhibition, David Bowie: On Tour, featuring 100 items from Bowie's archive and kicking off at V&A Dundee this November before touring to UK venues.

Rather than a full retrospective, the tour emphasizes Bowie's creative process, presenting handwritten lyrics, stage costumes, personal artifacts, and his final live tour microphone.

The touring selection aims to unite Bowie's diverse career across music, fashion, and culture under a curated narrative.

The tour is part of a broader effort to make archival material more accessible through temporary, regional exhibitions.

A substantial portion of the items on tour are being shown for the first time, including behind-the-scenes Polaroids, unrealized project ideas, notebooks, and working documents.

Highlights include original Ziggy Stardust era costumes by Freddie Burretti and Kansai Yamamoto, along with tour sketches and an acoustic guitar used in Ziggy performances.

The show is organized into four thematic sections and will also display Berlin-era items, such as Bowie's apartment keys and Low-era concept art.

Additional venues for the tour are expected to be announced later.

Beyond music, the exhibition includes storyboards, film props, scripts, photography, video treatments, and personal planning materials to illustrate Bowie's multidisciplinary artistry.

Other highlights include Natasha Korniloff and Kansai Yamamoto costumes, a rehearsal chart from the Earthling era, and a harmonica microphone from the 2003–04 tour.

While specific UK venues and dates aren’t detailed in the release, the initiative signals a major traveling Bowie legacy exhibit.

Supporters include V&A Dundee director Leonie Bell and V&A leadership, who stress making Bowie's story accessible across the UK.
