The Metropolitan Police decided no further action would be taken against Green Party leader Zack Polanski after reviewing reports about a social media post showing a man in a T-shirt with the slogan “We’re only making plans for Nigel.”

Nigel Farage criticized Polanski’s post and called for accountability, suggesting broader concerns about political violence in the wake of the incident.

Polanski said the post was a collaboration from a photographer, admitted he did not review all 20 images before posting, and removed the image once he became aware of it.

The Greater London Authority’s monitoring officer will review the complaint, which could lead to a misconduct probe if a case is found.

Pat McFadden, the Work and Pensions Secretary, said politicians must be careful with posts and noted this isn’t the first similar incident involving Polanski.

McFadden tied the issue to the broader context of political violence, mentioning police action would depend on the case.

British political figures, including McFadden, stressed the need for care with online posts and that police action rests with authorities.

On the day of the decision, Polanski admitted he didn’t look carefully enough and pledged to be better online.

The Metropolitan Police said they take threats to public life seriously and would investigate offences with clear evidence, but the threshold for action was not met in this case.

A Green Party spokesperson noted Polanski condemned the image, highlighted threats against public figures, and urged civility in public discourse.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said Polanski and Farage spend too much time on social media and should engage more with voters.

The statement clarified that police do not treat individuals with public profiles differently and that multiple factors are considered in assessments.
