Ed Sheeran Foundation Backs Youth Music Initiative Connecting Young Talent Across Ireland
July 31, 2026
A cross-border youth music initiative backed by the Ed Sheeran Foundation, Music Generation Cork City, and the Oh Yeah Centre launches with song-writing, performance, and community engagement to connect children and young people across Ireland.
The kickoff event takes place at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast, with 50 young performers performing at Belfast City Hall on August 3.
North South Sounds 2026 centers youth-led gigs in both Cork City and Belfast as a flagship feature of the program.
Participants Avery (15) and Manas (14) credit mentorship for valuable experiences and musical development.
ESF support reinforces ongoing links with the Oh Yeah Centre and strengthens cross-border collaboration among young people via Kabin Studio and Creative Tradition.
Chelsea Andrews of Oh Yeah welcomes the backing from a major grassroots music figure and highlights the value of mentorship and support for nurturing young musicians.
Mentor Aaron Hennessy, a bodhrán player and rapper who has performed for large crowds, mentors younger Kabin Studio participants.
The North South Sounds 2026 program features Avery, Manas, and their band The Ladies-Men, showcased at the Oh Yeah Centre during the event.
Gigs are scheduled at the Oh Yeah Centre and Belfast City Hall on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
Liadh O’Driscoll, with about two years of rapping experience, joined the program through Irish-language workshops and looks forward to performing.
Avery and The Ladies-Men describe their collaboration with Cork’s Kabin Studio and Creative Tradition as a positive partnership that broadens their musical experience.
After the launch, North South Sounds 2026 will continue through December with more workshops, youth-led gigs, and non-residential summer camps for around 100 more young people.
