The Faith & Fame: A Personal George Michael Collection auction highlights a guitar as the centerpiece, gathered from a larger archive put together by his former personal assistant Siobhan Bailey.

Estimated auction values include a gold disc for Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go at £200,000–£500,000, an award for Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 at £200,000–£500,000, and Older selling for over £1.8 million in UK sales with similar estimates.

Other items in the sale feature Wham! tour itineraries, live-performance memorabilia, and a four-page Live Aid running order from 1985 that includes Michael’s duet with Elton John.

The guitar was part of Michael’s live performances during the Faith era but was not used on the Faith album recording.

The auction notes Michael’s Faith World Tour appearance and the guitar’s studio history, including involvement by Hugh Burns and its non-use on the Faith record.

George Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, had 13 UK number-one singles, publicly came out in 1998, was an LGBT rights activist and HIV/AIDS fundraiser, and died of heart disease on Christmas Day in 2016 at age 53.

Additional background covers Michael’s stage persona, career milestones, and personal life, including his 1998 coming out and activism; he died on December 25, 2016, at 53.

Michael’s death on December 25, 2016, at age 53 is noted as part of the personal timeline.

The instrument’s tonal qualities and its place in the 1980s pop-rock aesthetic are highlighted, contrasting with more common Gretsch models among enthusiasts.

The auction coincides with the tenth anniversary of Michael’s death and follows renewed interest in the Faith era, with a new film and 18-song live album slated for release featuring rediscovered Paris concert footage and unpublished Herb Ritts photos.

Ahead of the release, Sotheby’s auction previews and a film titled George Michael: The Faith Tour, directed by Andy Morahan, will feature unseen archival footage from a 1988 Paris show and is expected in November.
