Six serving officers—Demi Green, Heena Rani, Lucy Granby, Matthew Barlow, Matthew Hill, and Mohammed Abid—were dismissed without notice, with two former officers also found to have committed gross misconduct and a ninth officer found to have misconduct; none of these officers remain on the force.

The discipline stems from an internal racism probe into discriminatory remarks toward a fellow officer of African heritage, resulting in six serving officers and two former officers being punished for gross misconduct.

The decision was made in collaboration with the Bury district to address concerns and ensure the police service reflects and earns the confidence of diverse communities.

Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods emphasized that discriminatory behavior has no place in the force and thanked the officer who came forward, underscoring the importance of speaking up and receiving support.

In a separate finding, Sgt Adrian Bick received only a written warning for misconduct and did not breach the force’s equality and diversity standards.

The investigation documented racist behavior toward a female officer, including her accent being mimicked, a comparison to a suspect of similar skin colour, and a derogatory comment about her hair.
