Kobe Bryant Statue Marred by Spelling Errors, Lakers Vow Fixes
March 11, 2024
The new Kobe Bryant statue by the Crypto.com Arena contains misspellings, including errors in the box score of his 81-point game, and names like Von Wafer and Jose Calderon.
The Lakers have recognized the mistake and are taking steps to correct the misspellings on the statue.
Future statues will undergo more stringent checks to prevent similar errors, as this was part of a three-statue project honoring Bryant.
Created by artists Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany, the statue commemorates Kobe's career-high game and includes a quote from him.
Two more statues are planned, including one of Kobe in his No. 24 uniform and another with his daughter Gianna, with unveiling dates yet to be announced.
The Lakers have not specified when the current statue's errors will be corrected, following its unveiling which coincided with a Lakers loss to the Denver Nuggets.
