A tragic accident occurred early on November 29, 2024, when a driver was killed after a head-on collision with a Jeep SUV traveling the wrong way on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit.

The crash took place in the southbound lanes near Grand River Avenue, where Michigan State Police arrived to find the wrong-way Jeep and another SUV with significant front-end damage.

The driver of the Jeep, a 27-year-old woman, was rescued from the wreckage and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital, where her family is by her side.

Crash reconstructionists are on-site to gather evidence and help determine the sequence of events leading up to the accident.

Unfortunately, the impact caused the other SUV to catch fire, and despite the efforts of Detroit fire crews, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been determined, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Michigan State Police are working to establish how the Jeep driver ended up traveling the wrong way, including investigating her entry point onto the freeway and whether impairment was a factor.

This incident is part of a concerning trend on Michigan roads, where there have been 143 serious injuries reported last week, bringing the total for the year to 5,193, which is slightly lower than the previous year.

As of late November 2024, Michigan has recorded 945 deaths on its roads this year, including 13 fatalities reported the previous week.
