Recovery is expected to take four to six weeks, with Livingstone College Provost leading the college during Davis’s absence, and Davis expects to return to work in January.

Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony Davis underwent a successful kidney transplant on November 13, 2025, after years of stage five kidney failure and heavy dialysis, daily pills, and monthly injections.

An anonymous donor matched with Livingstone College to donate a kidney after approaching Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, enabling the transplant despite an earlier 5-7 year wait due to blood type.

Davis expressed deep gratitude to the donor, calling the act a life-saving miracle and expressing excitement about reclaiming his life.

Before the surgery, the college held a pep rally titled Miracle on Monroe to celebrate the anticipated transplant, with prayers, Rotary Club involvement, and support from local churches.

Davis plans to advocate for others awaiting kidney transplants and to share his story to raise awareness about organ donation, highlighting strong support from his community, including the Rotary Club, AME Zion church members, and Livingstone College staff and students.
