Busch had recently fallen seriously ill after the All-Star Race and a Craftsman Truck Series win, leading to hospitalization for symptoms including shortness of breath, fever, and coughing up blood while at a General Motors facility in Concord, North Carolina.

Busch is survived by his wife Samantha and their children, Brexton and Lennix, and his family held a private funeral in June.
