A new rule bars athletes who have signed professional contracts, appeared on a professional roster, or declared for the NFL Draft as underclassmen without withdrawing from eligibility from playing for a conference school.

The policy is illustrated by the case of Anthony Hankerson, an undrafted Oregon State running back who moved from an NFL signing with the Dolphins to the Seahawks before being waived, highlighting the type of situation the rule aims to address.

The move comes after a Louisiana court granted a temporary restraining order that could allow some players to return to college athletics if NFL teams waive them.

The Big Ten has unanimously voted to bar players who have already participated in the NFL from maintaining their college eligibility.
